  • Documents and Papers
Over the years we have written a number of technical papers on various aspects of Dolphin Smalltalk and its underlying frameworks. These are available via the following links:

The Interpreter Is Dead (Isn't It?) — Why we chose to go with an interpretive Virtual Machine for Dolphin rather than one based on a JIT compiler. This paper was presented at the OOPSLA 99 Workshop: “Simplicity, Performance and Portability in Virtual Machine Design”

Twisting the Triad — An overview of the origins of Dolphin's MVP application framework, with respect to the more traditional Smalltalk MVC framework .

Extending SUnit to Test SASE Events — A discussion of our extensions to SUnit (the Smalltalk unit testing framework) enabling tests to be written for Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope event based systems (#trigger:#when: etc.).

ANSI Smalltalk/98 (X3J20) Draft — Dolphin Smalltalk aims to be largely ANSI Smalltalk 98 compliant. The full standard is available for a reasonable charge from ANSI.org but the final draft is also available for free download via the adjacent link.
